Unproductive Weekend

There are a few things that I wanted to chip away at this weekend, but I got hung up on installing things.

I was bit for the first time by an older package in Ubuntu Hoary - it's still on Bugzilla 2.16, while sid and more importantly my work has moved on to 2.18. My attempt to shoehorn the sid package in failed miserably. On to manual installation, I guess..

I've managed to get my Zire talking to gnome-pilot exactly once. I think that must have been luck, googling for the kernel messages I'm seeing indicate there's some sort of problem with multiple requests being made of the device at the same time. I'll resort to using the Palm OS Emulator; pity it was orphaned and removed from Debian years ago.

I did get Qt 4 built. Was confused for a while by their removal of sqlite 2.x from the Qt source package. They used to have an "sqlite" module that utilised the bundled sqlite 2.x source. Now, that module's renamed and you need to install sqlite 2.x yourself, and the new "sqlite" module is for the now-bundled sqlite 3.x. Given that 2.x and 3.x are mutually incompatible, it strikes me as an odd decision.

I needed libmysqlclient10-dev, postgresql-dev and libsqlite0-dev to get all the database modules I cared about installed. And Qt's ./configure needed -I/usr/include/postgresql -I/usr/include/mysql. (These boring details brought to you by anticipated self-reference.)

On the positive front: at least ATI drivers and Doom 3 install smoothly. Yes, I'm actually going to play through that game. Also, Batman Begins rocks.

Why, hello there.

Got back from a holiday over to Melbourne last week. First weekend back involved the fifth season of The West Wing and much laziness.

9 songs was more interesting on paper.

Busy, not sleeping much, but kinda enjoying it. I'm unable to work at a truly steady and moderate pace for months on end, it's all rushes and lulls at the moment.

Have started paying myself a daily allowance in an attempt to curb pointless spending. We'll see how long this lasts.

Birthday

Today is my 23rd birthday.

I feel older than I used to, but I don't feel older than I did yesterday.

I want a holiday. Uncertain scheduling of stuff at work makes it difficult for me to nip away in the next month, however.

Office of Film and Literature Classification report - 9 Songs

NSFW, and available here.

Flip to page four. Simultaneously the most graphic and most amusing thing I've yet seen on *.gov.au. Like a taxpayer funded version of the (also NSFW) CNDB.

Second post

I intend at some point to start rambling about my life again. But for now I'm just testing.

Installing a recent pyblosxom was far easier than I'd thought it would be.

Requiring titles is naff

But it seems to be the way things are done these days.

Oh, and frist post.
